The Haitian Ministry

"The St. Joseph Haiti Ministry was formed in 1989 in the belief that education is the best gift we can offer the children of Haiti, the poorest country in our hemisphere.

Our parish community was one of the very first supporters of the Louverture-Cleary Catholic School in Port-au-Prince. We remained faithful to the development of this school through many difficult and tenuous years. Today the school stands as one of the finest primary and secondary schools in Haiti. Many Louverture Cleary graduates move on to  professional studies which allow them to impact positive change in their  country. For the past decade the ministry has focused on developing the Haiti Mountain School located in the mountains of southern Haiti. Prior to its creation, there was no school available to children in this very remote area. Thanks to the generosity of our parish community, we have added a small addition to the school and are able to staff the school with qualified teachers. We educate approximately 350 students and provide a nutritious meal each day. We have brought a water source  to the school and the taps are available to the entire community. We are able to send dental and medical teams periodically to check our students as well as the larger community.

Our Catholic Church has always had a helping presence with those most in need. Through the Haitian Ministry our parish community takes

small but meaningful steps in that same tradition. We welcome all who would like to join us in this important mission and greatly appreciate  our parish's ongoing and faithful financial support.
